Preserving Our Past
Cherokee Historical Museum is located in historical downtown Centre, Al. There are many, many, wonderful items in the Museum. A stroll through the museum will take you back in time; wheat threshing, a liquor still, gas pumps from the 1920's, the history of the railroad between 1854-1981.
We know you have many special old treasures you received from family members that you want preserved forever. The museum relies on your donations and gifts of these artifacts to preserve this history. We thank you for your help and interest.
Donate an Item:
As you consider donating your items, please consider the following. Only county related artifacts can be accepted. The Museum only collects items that have a direct connection to Cherokee County history. Items we accept for our Museum collections may have been manufactured or used in Cherokee County or belonged to Cherokee County residents. The Museum also accepts County related objects like written or printed materials, including diaries, letters, manuscripts, pamphlets, programs, objects and photographs.
Do you want to give the item to the Museum or just loan it for Museum use:
If you give it, the Museum owns it and can decide to place it in storage, displace it, or remove it from the Museum
If you loan it, you may request its return at any time or the Museum may ask you to pick it up. You will have 30 days to pick up the item. If more than 30 days elapses and you have not made arrangements to pick up the item, the Museum assumes ownership and will determine the use of the item. Please be assured that we are grateful for your offer to donate an item to the museum and we hope that you will continue to consider offering other historially significant artifacts that you own to the Museum to preserve for our future generations.
The Museum is a non profit...501C3...and a educational organization: Your contribution is fully tax deductible. The museum is a private not-for-profit Alabama corporation...not a government agency. Each year since 1985 The Historical Museum has received gifts and donations from our local community...from individual and business memberships, non-profit and corporate sponsorships, admission fees, dedicated grants, bequeaths, and planned giving arrangements. The Board of Directors and the Museum staff thank you for your support. It is vital to supplement the daily operations. In addition to planned giving arrangements, each year since 1985, the Museum has received gifts and donations from our local community...from individual and business memberships, non-profit and corporate sponsorships, admission fees, and dedicated grants.
We have partnered with the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama to establish an endowment fund to support our work forever! Help us grow our fund by making a gift to the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama. Donations are accepted online, by mailing a check to P. O. Box 1826, Anniston, AL, 36202; or making a planned gift in your will, estate, life insurance, retirement plan, stock transfers and many more.
